How to identify real Pima Cotton?
I want to help you know more about the excellent fabric we use for our baby clothes; I would like to start saying that True Pima cotton produces a beautiful fabric, clearly of higher value and thus commanding a higher price point. Unfortunately, the biggest problem with Pima cotton is that the market has been saturated with a TON of fakes.
I listed some properties that you should consider if you want to buy clothes made of 100% Pima cotton:
- It has excellent drape, and it is pleasant, very soft to the touch, and gives off a brilliant tone that makes it especially delicate.
- When working correctly with the fiber, it adapts to the temperature, so you get an extremely fresh fabric that is ideal for summer and spring, and also that keeps you warm during the colder months.
- Pima cotton has the durability of more than 50% of other cotton standards, due to its fine and long fiber, which makes it more resistant, durable, delicate, and flexible.
- The length of the fiber strands is extra long, measuring between 1.5 inches and 1.6 inches.
- The thread count is 50/1, achieving an unbeatable softness to the touch.
Due to its unusual softness, Pima cotton is commonly used to make luxury-oriented clothing items. However, this type of cotton is also incredibly popular as a bedsheet fabric. Even though it is highly durable, Pima cotton isn't commonly used in industrial settings. The reason for this fact could be that this type of cotton is too expensive to justify its use in commercial applications.
Finally, but not least, I also want to let you know that Pima cotton production is generally less impactful to the environment than other types of cotton production. While the vast majority of cotton production worldwide is done by machines, Pima cotton is usually handpicked, which helps retain the integrity of the cotton fiber. By using this method, less waste is produced, which lessens the environmental impact of producing this type of fabric. Being a natural fiber its hypoallergenic and it doesn’t contain any traces of any pesticide that could affect people with sensitive skin or with allergic, respiratory, or skin conditions who need to avoid contact with residue from synthetic fertilizers. Pima cotton is safest and in its highest-quality form when it is grown organically and spun without the introduction of any chemicals.
I hope this information was helpful and gives you confidence on the higher value our baby clothing offers to your little ones!
